Feadship

Over the decades, the name Feadship has become synonymous with uncompromising quality, technical excellence and pure custom creation. Every Feadship is conceived, engineered and built in the Netherlands and reflects an approach in which individuality, longevity and refinement are paramount. Feadship delivers fully custom superyachts typically ranging from around 50 metres to well over 100 metres in length.

The history of Feadship

Feadship is an acronym for the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders. The group was founded in 1949 when six leading Dutch yards and De Voogt Naval Architects joined forces to present their yachts to the American market under a single name.

Today, Feadship consists of three parties: Royal Van Lent Shipyard, founded in 1849; Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, founded in 1906; and De Voogt Naval Architects, established in 1913. Both shipyards have been granted royal status by the Dutch royal family in recognition of their long-standing contribution to Dutch maritime excellence.

Each member of Feadship has a distinct history, its own in-house disciplines and highly specialised craftsmen. Together, they form an integrated organisation in which design, engineering and construction are developed in close collaboration from the earliest concept stage through to delivery.

Pure custom superyachts

Feadship is one of the only yacht builders that can truly be said to create custom superyachts. Custom means starting every project with a blank page. It involves designing and building a bespoke motor yacht that is entirely individual and unlike any other in the world.

Custom should never be confused with customising. That approach is based on adapting an existing platform or concept. That is not the Feadship way. Every Feadship is developed in close partnership with its owner to create a one-off motor yacht that reflects personal vision, intended use and lifestyle. A Feadship, in other words, is defined by character, purpose and enduring value.

Facilities and operations

Feadship operates multiple shipyards across the Netherlands. Koninklijke De Vries is headquartered in Aalsmeer, with an additional facility in Makkum dedicated to the construction of the largest Feadships. Royal Van Lent operates from its historic yard on Kaag Island and from a modern facility in Amsterdam.

Across all locations, Feadship applies the same standards of craftsmanship, engineering precision and quality control.

Notable yachts and innovation

Innovation at Feadship is driven by long-term thinking, technical depth and lessons learned across a fleet of more than 500 yachts. New developments are validated through real-world application and continuous feedback from owners and crews.

A defining milestone in this approach is the 118.8-metre Breakthrough, delivered in 2025 as the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell superyacht. She pioneered the use of green hydrogen to generate emission-free electrical power for harbour manoeuvring and hotel load, establishing a global first for hydrogen fuel cell technology on a superyacht.

Alongside such landmark projects, Feadship advances future-focused engineering through dedicated research and development initiatives, including the Feadship Advanced Electrical Drive programme (FAED). FAED accelerates the development of alternative propulsion and onboard energy systems, ensuring new technologies are scalable, reliable and applicable across future custom projects.

Earlier milestones include Savannah, delivered in 2015 as Feadship’s first hybrid-powered yacht, and Venus, which advanced the structural and functional use of glass on board large custom superyachts. Together, these yachts illustrate Feadship’s continuous evolution in engineering, naval architecture and systems integration.

Across propulsion, hull design, materials and onboard systems, Feadship continues to set benchmarks for technical excellence to create yachts that remain relevant, efficient and highly desirable throughout their lifecycle.

Feadship Resale, and Refit and Services

Feadship Resale is the dedicated brokerage division of Feadship, offering clients specialist support in the purchase and sale of existing Feadships. With direct access to original build knowledge, design data and yard expertise, Feadship Resale provides an unrivalled level of insight and guidance throughout the resale process.

Refit and Services forms an integral part of the Feadship lifecycle. Operating from Feadship’s own yards, the division supports owners throughout the operational life of their yacht, from maintenance and system upgrades to major refits. By applying the same engineering depth, craftsmanship and project management as in new construction, Feadship Refit and Services helps ensure that every Feadship continues to perform, evolve and retain its long-term value.

Together, Feadship Resale and Refit and Services provide owners with continuity and confidence across the entire lifecycle of a Feadship, safeguarding quality, performance and desirability from first ownership through successive generations.
