The 40.2 metre Benetti motor yacht Oryx has been sold with the buyer paying in Bitcoin. The sale marks one of the first recorded brokerage deals completed in cryptocurrency.

The deal was facilitated by Bitcoin payment service provider Bitpay with Hans Van Doornmalen and Simon Goldsworthy at Edmiston & Company representing the seller and Juan Andrade at SuperYachtsMonaco introducing the buyer.

Oryx was asking €9,900,000 and had been on the market less than two months

Designed by Stefano Righini, Oryx was built in GRP to ABS class and delivered in 2013 as one of the shipyard’s acclaimed Classic Supreme series. The Francois Zuretti-interior makes full use of her 8.18 metre beam and 346GT with full height windows complimenting the neutral colour palette and cream coloured furnishings.

The main saloon has comfortable furniture for relaxation in front of a 50 inch HD television and entertainment centre, and there is a formal dining area forward.  Al fresco dining for up to 12 guests is available on the aft deck, while the sun deck hosts a bar, a fridge, a barbecue and a Jacuzzi alongside sun pads. More comfort is available in the skylounge of this yacht for sale with ample seating and a 50 inch HD television screen.

Accommodation is for up to 12 guests in five cabins laid out as a full-beam master suite on the main deck plus two VIP suites and two doubles below, all with full en suite bathroom facilities.

The yacht is powered by twin 1,450hp MTU engines for a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 3,500 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots.

Oryx was asking €9,900,000.
