Patrick Coote, Marketing Manager of Fraser Yachts, called this morning to tell me that, as of February 23, Hein Velema has been appointed CEO of Fraser Yachts, replacing Frank Brand who has left the company. Hein studied economics at the Free University in Amsterdam before spending 10 years as a business consultant. He then joined Feadship as Director of Sales and Marketing and later as CEO of De Voogt, Feadship’s design and engineering arm. He joined Fraser Yachts in 2007 as Commercial Director, responsible for brokerage, new construction and charter. Under his stewardship, Fraser Yachts sold more superyachts in 2008 than any other brokerage house. The pace of growth continues, with new offices opened in Newport, RI and Mexico last year and in Palma this year. On a personal note, I’ve known Hein since he started in the industry and have always enjoyed our relationship as he’s a thoroughly interesting man who, apart from being an enthusiastic sailor, is an accomplished musician and composer.
