4 fun ways to experience the interactive America’s Cup World Tour

Sail on board America’s Cup yacht America

The first-ever America’s Cup World Tour is hitting the road this summer, launching in San Diego, California, in July 2015 and winding up in Bermuda in 2017, the host for the America’s Cup.

“The goal of this tour is to celebrate the event’s storied history and infuse a new level of excitement and involvement in the America’s Cup now and for generations to come,” said Troy Sears, captain of the replica America’s Cup yacht America.

Here are the four ways to experience the America’s Cup World Tour:

1. Sail on board America’s Cup yacht America

Step back in history with a sail on board America, the 42 metre replica schooner of the original yacht that started the America’s Cup tradition. America will be will be sailing as an official Cup ambassador, starting on the US West Coast in 2015, then the East Coast in 2016 and finishing up in the Caribbean in winter 2017. Helmed by Captain Troy Sears, America will depart from San Diego Bay on July 6 to start the West Coast leg of the tour.

Book a live America’s Cup presentation

Get an insider’s look at the blood, sweat and tears spent fighting for the world’s oldest trophy with a live presentation by Tucker Thompson, TV and Public Host of the 35th America’s Cup. Yacht clubs and organisations can arrange for these exclusive presentations to be given to their group, and on special occasions, the Cup trophy might make an appearance, where you can….

Take a selfie with the America’s Cup trophy

Arrange for the America’s Cup trophy to be displayed at an event you’re hosting. During the America’s Cup World Tour, the "world's oldest trophy" can be organised to be on display for groups. The rare opportunity to see the real Cup trophy up close and personal incurs additional costs for travel and security, of course.

Take part in a hands-on composite construction project

Teens age 13 to 18 have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the technology behind the new America’s Cup high-performance, smaller racing yachts. With the STEM Summer Seminars, students can participate in a hands-on composite construction project and go home with their own sample of composite material.
