Andrew Trujillo Design has revealed its latest collaboration with Adam Younger Design — the 42 metre superyacht concept Continuum.
The design features an innovative stepped hull design, which combines with triple MTU 16 cylinder diesel water jets to power the yacht to a top speed in excess of 50 knots.
Continuum's hull design features a deep bow, fluted spray rails and two transverse tapered steps which work alongside the jet drives to generate hydrodynamic performance, increase stability and improve efficiency. “The hull form seeks to achieve a balanced and efficient dynamic platform to offer a greater combination of speed and handling,” explained Andrew Trujillo design in a statement.
One of the most notable features of the exterior design is the large open sun deck, although it can also be customised to include a fixed Bimini if desired.
“It seems that so many yachts have deck upon deck, making them look a little top heavy in my mind,” said Trujillo. “I sought to return to the original principle of a fast motor yacht. I wanted to make it look dynamic, with lines that emphasise its length and add a sense of speed and adventure to it.”
Other design features include the aft mounted radar masts, which offer a distinctive look, and the enclosed anchor pockets, which seek to retain the clean lines of the hull.
Continuum’s layout can be customised to suit the owner, but the initial design comes with a full beam main deck master cabin with a large skylight, en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. On the lower deck there is space for four or five guest cabins depending on the requirements. There is also accommodation for six crew members.
Aft of the master cabin is a raised pilothouse for optimised views when underway. The main deck also accommodates a well-appointed galley and a large main saloon with a formal dining area and a comfortable lounge.
The design studio has proposed construction from lightweight composites, although it has also considered the option of using lightweight alloy. The flexible system in the engine room means that Continuum can cruise on just two of the three engines, thereby greatly extending the range.
Andrew Trujillo has more than 20 years of experience in yacht design. He has now started his own studio and has revealed a range of inspiring concepts, including a twin-masted 35 metre catamaran concept.
Adam Younger has many years of experience in designing fast race and patrol boats and in recent years has increasingly specialised in performance hull design.
