Carrefour has launched the world’s first “sail thru” supermarket off the coast of Dubai.

Bites and More by the Shore stocks more than 300 items, including dry foods and personal care products, in a custom built “aqua pod” anchored at sea.

Jet Skis and tenders pick up deliveries at the window while larger boats, such as superyachts, can order from their boats and have their groceries delivered by a skiff within 45 minutes.

The floating supermarket is open six days a week

The superyacht is also serves those relaxing on Dubai’s beaches, including Kite beach, Jumeirah public beach and Al Sufouh beach, who can order food via the company’s app.

The supermarket is open six days a week from 10am to 6am and has been designed and created by Aquatic Architects Design Studio in Dubai.

The eco-friendly pod is powered by rechargeable batteries and is equipped with a seabin, which sucks up floating debris from the sea into its holding tank.

Chief operating officer for Carrefour UAE Miguel Povedano said: “With Dubai’s stunning coastline being enjoyed by millions of people each year, it is a natural next step to cater to our customers with relevant products in a locale where they are not currently being served.”
