French start-up InLight Evolution, founded by Erick Leclerc and Anna Matesic, has presented a 48 metre superyacht concept powered by green hydrogen named H2R-Evolution.
Described as a "mono-cat", the emission-free vessel was designed in collaboration with naval architect Nicolas Fouroux and designer Clifford Denn, and revealed during the GLAM Yachting day at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021.
The concept’s zero-carbon, hybrid propulsion system converts seawater into hydrogen using "electrolysers" and also comprises solar panels, and tidal turbines which allow for “total autonomy while sailing”. Equally, the lack of noise pollution via the concept’s silent propulsion further adds to its green credentials.

H2R-Evolution's eco-friendly design comes as shipyard MB92 Group issued a cutting report, stating the industry had "ten years to clean up its act" in order to save the world's oceans.
According to Leclerc, H2R-Evolution’s inspiration came when he “saw a large yellow pollution cloud made of CO2 and sulphites on the horizon. This boat is intended for customers who wish to commit to a new form of [green] consumption.”
