Independence 110: 33m catamaran completes sea trials in Thailand

7 April 2022 • Written by Katia Damborsky

Thai shipyard Floeth Yachts has confirmed the successful sea trials of its first Independence 110 Wave Piercer catamaran.

As one of the world's largest composite catamarans, the 33 metre superyacht aims to offer its owner economic cruising, improved seakeeping and a range that allows for long-distance cruising.

The yacht has an 11 metre beam and is powered by four Cummins 6CTA engines to supply a combined total of 1520 HP with an expected top speed of 22 - 24 knots.

During sea trials, the motor yacht only used two engines to deliver 760 HP with a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots. At 12 knots, the boat will burn an average of 23 litres per hour, giving an impressive range of around 10,000 nautical miles.

The Independence 110 has now returned to the yard’s facilities on the Gulf of Thailand for completion. Onboard highlights include a 2,000-litre swimming pool with a waterfall feature and 64 square metre saloon that sits over two metres above the waterline and volunteers huge windows.

A tender lifting platform on the aft of the yacht has a maximum carrying capacity of two tonnes that allows for plenty of toy and tender storage, including the option of a miniature submersible.

The Independence 110 is available as a semi-custom build, allowing clients to adapt the layout to suit their needs and create a tailored yacht that matches their lifestyle.

Floeth Yachts builds a number of other yachts in the 85’ to 145’ range, including the 11 metre Independence 65 and the SS52, a fully-carbon yacht designed with the US market in mind.
