French boat builder JFA Yachts has launched its 26.3-metre sailing catamaran Long Island 87', the third unit in the yard's Long Island series, during a ceremony at its facilities in the port of Concarneau in Brittany, northwestern France.
Naval architecture and exterior design come from the boards of Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, with interiors by Darnet Design, resulting in a yacht which balances the same long-range cruising capabilities as two previous models in the yard's Long Island 85 series but with a "fresh approach to onboard living spaces".
An aluminium hull and composite deck and superstructure deliver a light displacement that contributes to strong sailing performance and comfort during long-distance passages.
At main deck level, the cockpit, lounge and dining area all benefit from an abundance of natural light, while exterior cockpit and sunbathing areas provide an inviting space for guests to enjoy views of the water.
Aft, the platform accommodates a five-metre tender and can be transformed at anchor into a dedicated space for relaxation and water sports.
Inside, the 124-square-metre main living space is defined by generous volumes and large openings that maximise natural light, creating a seamless connection between the different living areas.
Accommodation is for up to 10 guests and encompasses a full-beam main-deck owner's cabin with 180-degree views. A dedicated owner's bathroom, children's cabin with four berths and aft guest cabin are housed within the port hull, while the starboard hull features a second guest cabin and crew quarters.
A defining feature of this new model is the flybridge, designed to be a living space in its own right with two helm stations, a sheltered bar and spacious lounge. Offering a versatile layout, the space can be configured to support a variety of needs, from navigation to relaxation and socialising, all while providing panoramic views.
The flybridge roof is also fitted with solar panels to contribute to onboard electricity generation at anchor and reduce reliance on generators. The Long Island 87' is powered by two 400hp engines and includes two 27 kW generators.
"We are very excited to launch this Long Island 87’ project," said the yacht's owner. "We found this yacht to be the perfect balance between performance under sail and functional living spaces. The Long Island 87’ is the optimal proven blue water sailing catamaran available in the market today and well suited for our specific mission, to circumnavigate the globe with our family of four in unparalleled comfort, safety and luxury."
According to BOATPro, JFA Yachts has one yacht under construction, the 26.5-metre sailing yacht Volante, which is due to be delivered later this year.
The shipyard recently delivered its 50-metre hybrid explorer yacht Canoa to her owner, its largest and most technically ambitious project to date.
