Second 53m Mengi Yay Virtus XP yacht launched and christened Amphib II

The second yacht from the flagship Mengi Yay Virtus XP series has been launched from the yard's facilities in Tuzla, Turkey.

The 52.6-metre new build, previously known as NB116 and now officially christened Amphib II, now stands as one of the largest yachts built by the yard to date, behind the first from the series, Gray Wolf, which was launched in April

The Virtus XP was designed throughout by long-standing collaborators VYD Studio, with engineering and naval architecture owed to Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The steel and aluminium model is described as a capable, "go anywhere" vessel designed for long-range cruising, with a volume that sits just under 500GT.

Differing from her sistership Gray Wolf, Amphib II features an expanded helideck and no pools on board - both specifically requested by her owner. Another custom element can be found in the make-up of her decks, which, instead of regular teak, have been constructed with synthetic teak – the first time the material has been incorporated on a Mengi Yay.

Exterior spaces include a spacious main deck aft for dining and lounging close to the water and a large relaxed seating area forward of the bridge.

The yacht has been built to RINA C+ Hull class and complies with several regulations including REG yacht code

Accommodation is across five cabins, including an open-plan master cabin positioned forward on the main deck and four lower deck guest cabins. Initial interior insights revealed a light, contemporary aesthetic dominated by a cream colour palette, light natural wood and bright floor-to-ceiling windows.

Amphib II is set to offer a transatlantic range, paired with maximum speeds of 15 knots and cruising speeds of 12 knots. Key numbers include an 8.9-metre beam and a 2.6-metre draught at full load.

Following her launch, Amphib II is scheduled to enter the final stages of construction, including outfitting, systems integration, harbour trials and sea trials, ahead of delivery this summer.

According to BOATPro, the shipyard currently has five yachts in build, including the first unit from its NL Plus 52 yacht model.
