3 March 2022• Written by Tom McGhie

South African builder Southern Wind has launched the 34.59 metre sailing yacht Sørvind. The yacht hit the water for the first time in Cape Town and joins the fleet as the fifth unit of the SW105 series.

Sporting an exterior design courtesy of Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design, the yacht was constructed with a full carbon hull, deck and bulwarks – all attributes geared at improving her performance on the seas.

Speaking about the launch, Southern Wind’s director and general manager Marco Alberti said: “I wish Sørvind owners an exciting sailing experience. She is built to reach uncharted waters, so I hope they have an unforgettable time discovering the world.”

As seen on her sisterships Wolfhound and Kiboko Tres, the yacht features a raised saloon with a coach roof that allows light to flood into the interiors.

Accommodation comes for eight in four cabins comprising of a main deck owner’s suite and three double guest staterooms located amidships. Elsewhere, the tender garage hosts a 4.3 metre tender alongside kayaks, paddleboards and other sea toys.

When not under sail, Sørvind is powered by a single Cummins QSB 6.7 MCD. Following her launch, the yacht will undertake extensive sea trials before departing Cape Town for her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean.
