Italian design company Studio Segno has unveiled MAAI, a 46.7-metre yacht concept that blends Japanese restraint with Italian conviviality.
Conceived around the principle of ma-ai – the "meaningful interval between people and spaces" – the layout is divided into two distinct zones: quieter, more private areas forward, with more social areas aft. The studio's founders, Çağla Enginer and Giovanni Paszkowski, penned the interiors and exteriors, respectively.
A sleek, sporty exterior and long horizontal lines accompany her layered decks, which draw on Japanese pavilion architecture. The katana-inspired upper structure brings these layers together in a distinctive silhouette. Large glazed openings connect the interior and exterior, making the relationship with the sea part of the yacht's architecture.
At the water's edge, three side balconies unfold, extending the lower deck aft platform into one continuous space. In place of a traditional beach club, the designers have made the main dining area the heart of life on board, complete with terraces and lounges for a full al fresco experience.
Family dining and socialising are central themes on the main deck, where a sunken lounge and large dining table take centre stage in the warm, cherry oak saloon. Accessed via the guest cabins, the space also features a sculptural main staircase that leads to the owner's deck, while a separate staircase leads to the lower-deck lounge.
The owner's cabin is positioned at the bow and opens up towards the water through full-height glazing and access to the forward terrace, complete with a private Jacuzzi. A his-and-hers arrangement gives each owner personal space while keeping them connected through a shared central area. On the upper deck, guests can escape to a dedicated wellness area.
MAAI is powered by two MAN V12-1650 engines and boasts a top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.
