Monaco Yacht Show: Sunseeker reveals new tri-deck Ocean 460

28 September 2022 • Written by Katia Damborsky

British shipyard Sunseeker has presented a new 42 metre semi-displacement model during the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 named the Ocean 460.

The radical design sees Sunseeker venture into new territory with an asymmetric, open-air beach club with a fold-down balcony on the port side and a pool recessed into the deck. Conceived as an entertainment area, this space has been designed to serve as an extension of the saloon and is split across two levels. Curved seating, an integrated bar and a hydraulic transformer platform complete the aft deck layout.

With a beam of 9.5 metres, the Ocean 460 has 25 per cent more interior volume than her sister model, the 40 metre 131 Yacht with just an extra two metres in length. Other features of the 42 metre yacht include a tri-deck design and near-vertical bow, with a split-level open beach and plenty of internal volume enhanced by full-height glazing throughout.

The yacht’s design has been helmed in-house by Sunseeker’s team and bears the design hallmarks of Sunseeker vessels with aggressive lines and an angular use of glazing. Her profile is immediately recognisable thanks to a sky lounge deck, which offers a great vantage point for entertaining and unwinding on board.

Accommodation consists of a full-beam owner’s suite on the upper deck forward, with various customisation options on offer for the owner to choose from. There are options to add a large aft saloon area or a private veranda and owners can also "opt to make this very light and subtle or incredibly dramatic with considered recessed lighting and stunning light and dark natural stone, woods and opulent textures", according to Sunseeker.

There are a further four cabins on the lower deck, while crew accommodation is split across four cabins with the option of attaching a dedicated captains’ cabin to the wheelhouse.

The Ocean 460 is available with MAN 12V engines that provide a maximum speed of 21 knots and a range of 3,200 nautical miles at a cruising speed of around 12 knots. Optional hybrid options will also be available for prospective clients, which will be able to alter the yacht’s range, improve silent operations or power the yacht’s hotel load while at anchor.

“I never cease to be amazed at the ingenuity, passion and talent of our in-house design and engineering teams that create the most achingly beautiful yachts, time after time,” said Andrea Frabetti, CEO at Sunseeker International.

He continued: “Although a superyacht, the lines of this new 42M model are truly perfect; beautiful, powerful and graceful, all in the same breath. Matched to an interior of sheer opulence, innovation and peerless quality, clients will be spellbound at this newfound direction.”
