Swan 128: Nautor Swan begins construction on second-largest project to date

30 September 2022 • Written by Holly Overton

Nautor Swan has announced the addition of a new 39 metre to its line of Maxi yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show. Known as the Swan 128, the model will be the second largest Swan in the history of the Finnish shipyard since the launch of the Swan 131 Aristarchos in 2006.

Construction is already underway at the Pietarsaari shipyard in Finland and is expected to launch in 2025. Her naval architecture is the work of German Frers, a longtime collaborator with the shipyard, and her interior is by Italian architect Misa Poggi.

The Swan 128 is the largest model in the shipyard's fleet and joins the 88, 98, 108 and 120 models. The styling is an evolution of two recently launched Maxis, the Swan 88 and the Swan 108, which are also under construction a the Pietarsaari shipyard.

A slender profile is defined by a sculpted deckhouse that offers a sportier appeal than her fellow cruisers. Lightness and functionality is at the core of the model's design and can be credited to Lucio Micheletti at Micheletti + Partners.

The deck is divided into three key areas: the social cockpit, the helm station and a large, multi-functional aft deck that serves as an open-air beach club. The transom folds down to reveal a tender garage with room for a 4.5 metre rib or tender.

Guests entering from the cockpit are greeted by a semi-raised saloon that offers three levels of natural light. A TV lounge, directly connected to the raised living room, can be converted into a large dining saloon that can seat up to 10 guests. Meanwhile, the entire foreship is dedicated entirely to the owner's quarters and has few design constraints, making it an appealing option for those looking to customise their next sailing yacht.

The remaining guest accommodation can be configured to the requirements of each owner with single or double beds as well as additional Pullman berths. The entire aft area of the boat is dedicated to crew accommodation and operations.

On the technical side, the Swan 128 will feature a double rudder blade offering optimal control even at high speeds and fingertip steering, giving her agility as well as elegance. A generous sail plan, conceived as a mainsail, jib, solent jib, A0 and A2 spinnaker with a total geometric sail area of 715.6 square metres, means the model can reach her full potential even in light winds. Heeling is contained to around 20 degrees offering comfort when under sail.

The new maxi yacht will be RINA classed.
