World Boating Day (WBD) 2026 is on track for a record number of global events designed to unite the boating community and invite newcomers to explore life on the water.

Taking place on 23 May, the initiative returns for its third edition following two "record-breaking" years, according to The Superyacht Life Foundation, which launched the non-profit campaign in 2024.

In addition to WBD, a wide range of companies, organisations and communities across 19 countries will be hosting events throughout the week of 18 to 24 May.

In Spain, for instance, a collaboration with the Balearic Marine Cluster brings together Astilleros de Mallorca, STP Shipyard Palma and Club de Mar Mallorca for guided access to shipyard operations, sailing activations, workshops and cultural events.

Also in the Mediterranean, Cluster Yachting Monaco will lead a program featuring Espen Øino, Sanlorenzo MED, La Belle Classe Academy and Monaco Marine, with activities spanning yacht design insights, technical yard visits, educational sessions and waterfront gatherings.

Benetti, meanwhile, will bring together emerging design talent with industry experts as part of its "Connecting Excellence" initiative in Italy, whereas Malta will host waterside yoga, a talk by Vikings Sailing School and creative art activations at the Hotel Excelsior with Q Global Accounting Ltd and Dingli & Dingli.

Elsewhere, the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum and Sail to Shelter will deliver hands-on activities in California, including creative workshops to repurpose retired sails into practical items, while Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale will offer a family-focused introduction to boating.

There will also be a number of interactive experiences hosted by Australia's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, as well as an online experience from Code\Luxe and BÄMboats offering wider accessibility to WBD.

"Together, these events reflect the creativity and community behind modern boating, offering a closer look at life on the water," a statement from World Boating Day read.

WBD was formed to foster a greater understanding of the global leisure boating industry, offering people a behind-the-scenes look at the sector through a multitude of local open days around the world. Participating companies are able to showcase the breadth of career paths and the depth of talent within the industry, in a move to shape the future by attracting the next generation of talent.

“WBD is one of the most valuable platforms through which our industry connects with the world," said Hüseyin Mengi, chairman of the board at Mengi Yay. "From the very first moment we heard about the initiative, we knew we wanted to be part of it."

According to WBD organisers, this year's edition is set to be "bigger, bolder and more inclusive than ever", with a new expanded reach. For the first time, sailing schools and maritime museums will be welcomed to take part in the initiative to give more people access to boating experiences, education and maritime heritage. This new addition intends to transform WBD into a "truly inclusive and educational celebration".
