The designing process of the Explorer 49.5 penned by Italian designer Tommaso Spadolini is in the final stages ahead of the beginning of construction.
The sub 500GT concept has now been commissioned by an Italian owner and the search for an Italian construction site is underway.
“The owner’s demands were very specific from the beginning,” said Spadolini. “First of all, to have large spaces, with as few differences in level as possible, and to have them covered and protected from the wind, so that the yacht could be enjoyed not just in the summer but mid-season as well.”
The 49.5 metre concept features a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and is designed around the cruising range, comfort, and social layout. Power will come from twin CAT engines for a cruising speed of ten knots and transatlantic range.
The yacht also includes a flybridge that serves as “a real meeting place for the owner and his family,” the designer said, with a central galley unit, large worktops and a table seating twelve, protected on three sides by a “sail-inspired” sprayhood.
The helipad doubles as a sunbathing area and can be populated with loose furniture, such as umbrellas and sunbeds. Further sunbeds and umbrellas are found on the large flush deck cockpit, which conceals a swimming pool.
The accommodation comprises a main deck full-beam master suite with a study, walk-in wardrobe, and double bathroom. The rest of the accommodation sits on the central lower deck and includes two twin ensuite cabins and an additional VIP cabin with a double bed and separate study towards the stern.
