22 April 2024 • Written by Katia Damborsky

Every month, BOAT gets a good dose of life advice from some of the biggest names in yachting. This month, Dickie Bannenberg of Bannenberg & Rowell recommends alpine air and Italian cocktails...

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?
“It is not the critic that counts….”. Jon Bannenberg, via Theodore Roosevelt ( or vice versa)

What’s your fondest memory involving a yacht?
Finally, and mercifully, falling asleep in a guest cabin on Talitha after being crazed with seasickness during her first voyage from Devonport to London where she ran for shelter on the Dorset coast amidst huge seas

"Mountains provide anti-frazzling capabilities"

If you could save one item from your house in a fire, what would it be?
The plates and cups made for me by my kids when they were small

Where’s the best place to draw design inspiration from?
To channel your inner sponge, and soak up architecture, history, typography, fashion, transport, design….

What do you look forward to after a long week at work?
A Negroni. Maarten at Feadship can validate this philosophy. Not necessarily just for end of week though.

Where’s the best place in Monaco to escape the crowds during the boat show?
I have absolutely no idea

What’s the craziest thing a client’s ever requested of you?
We’re quite looking forward to dressing and positioning the full-size Elton John waxwork on our 82-metre new build currently in Italy. He will sit at the custom-paintjob Steinway.

Which destinations are on your summer travel list?
Greece has a permanent place on this list, but mountains also provide anti-frazzling capabilities
