Sea Spa: Japanese Zen at Nobu's Esencia spa, Miami Beach

Where is it?

Positioned on a prime oceanfront location in Mid-Beach, Nobu Hotel Miami Beach opened in 2016 as part of the growing hotel empire from chef Nobu Matsuhisa and actor Robert De Niro. Occupying the former Eden Roc tower, which was designed by architect Morris Lapidus in 1956, the two hotels remain intertwined with a shared lobby, bar, pool, gym and spa with Nobu spaces easily identified by their chicly-understated Japanese aesthetic.

Why the hype?

Real estate is in short supply in Miami Beach so, even after three years, Nobu Miami Beach remains the destination’s most buzzed about ‘new’ opening. This is in large part thanks to the hot ticket restaurant (waiting lists for Nobu Miami are said to be months long) that has lured a bevy of famous faces through its doors since launch. Recent guests have included Kendall Jenner and Lady Gaga while Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Elton John are all known to be Nobu devotees.

What to have?

Neck feeling a little stiff from all that celebrity spotting? Check into the eclectic Esencia Spa, where the interior décor combines minimalist white spaces, moss walls, terrariums, life size unicorn planters filled with succulents and a boudoir-style lounge, for a Nobu Zen massage. This signature treatment is only available to Nobu guests and combines a range of techniques from the Swedish, Thai, Shiatsu, sports and deep tissue traditions to create a unique treatment specifically tailored to your body. Administered using your choice of aroma oil blends, stress and tension melt away leaving you to live your best Miami Beach life.

Where to work out?

Famous for its lean locals, the health-conscious Miami Beach atmosphere can be infectious so be sure to pack your trainers. Early risers (or jet lag sufferers) should head to the hotel’s vast high-spec gym before dawn and watch through the panoramic windows as the sun rises over the ocean. The hotel also offers daily complimentary classes for hotel guests, including kickboxing, pilates and HIIT, while private beach yoga and personal training sessions are also available. If you’re after something a little more relaxed make like a local and go for a jog along the boardwalk or borrow one of the hotel’s fixed gear bikes for a spot of sightseeing. Just don’t forget to stop by the health-focused Malibu Farm restaurant for a restoring juice or cauliflower crust pizza afterwards.

Best by boat?

Yacht owners are spoilt for choice in Miami Beach. Sea Isle Marina is located mere seconds from the hotel and can host yachts up to 42 metres while Indian Creek Marina offers spots up to 76 metres and One Island Park can play with the big boys thanks to its berths measuring up to 244 metres.
