Summer beauty must-have: Clarins Aquatic Treasures collection

13 May 2015 • Written by Zoe Dickens

With the Med season underway and summer superyacht stays looming ever closer, the time has come to spring clean your make-up bag and find room for the season’s new shades and breakthrough products. Clarins’ summer collection is always a highlight but with the newly released Aquatic Treasures range they’ve really honed in on what women want from warm weather make-up.

The new Clarins Aquatic Treasures collection

Comprising eyeshadows, bases, mascaras, eye pencils and bronzers, think warm honey shades, sun-kissed highlights and subtle pops of turquoise and blue with just a hint of shimmer. The new eyeshadow shades come from Clarins’ popular Ombre Matte family, whose effective cream to powder formulas and ease of blending have made them a huge success with DIY make-up artists. With an understated metallic sheen, the rose, navy and grey shades are flattering to almost all skin tones and eye colours (especially those blessed with a natural tan) and promise long-lasting wear of around 8-10 hours. The pigment is strong so use a soft brush and apply with a light touch, blending and layering until you achieve the desired effect.

Rounding off the new eyewear collection are two waterproof products – a mascara and pencil – that have been specifically designed to complement each other. Both are available in either Intense Black or Aquatic Green and glean their waterproof properties from the addition of orange blossom wax, promising a huge 12 hours of resistance to smudging and streaking. Coloured mascaras often get a bad press but the subtle turquoise-green of Clarin’s mascara isn’t over powering or gimmicky and, in strong sunlight, feels somehow fresher than its more classic counterpart.

Foundations and tinted moisturisers can often feel heavy or overdone when the temperature begins to rise so it was a smart move on Clarins' part to swap them out for new versions of its Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion bases. The new Apricot and Golden Bronze shades promise a gentle healthy glow and even skin tone with a lightweight formula that won’t feel uncomfortable as the day wears on. Better yet, the bases also feature Clarins’ anti-pollution technology, which guards your skin from the aging effects of city pollution and makes them a brilliant option for use at home as well as for balmy evenings on board your yacht.

The star of the collection, however, is undoubtedly the Aquatic Treasures bronzer. Available in four shades, which can be mixed and match for highlighting, warming and contouring purposes, this limited edition compact is embossed with a pretty coral-inspired design that’s almost too good to rub away. Once you do you’ll discover a long-lasting and easy to apply powder that requires minimal touching up throughout the day and is chic enough to slip into your clutch for any superyacht party.
