The inaugural Introduction to Superyacht Ownership event, held in association with Amels, welcomed a select group of prospective owners and family office representatives to an exclusive afternoon in Palm Beach on 24 March 2026 at the RADYCA Experience Center.
Designed for qualified first-time buyers and existing owners considering their next step, the programme offered an in-depth exploration of the complexities - and rewards - of superyacht ownership.
Throughout the afternoon, a series of expert-led talks and panel discussions brought together leading voices from across the industry, offering both strategic insight and experience-led perspectives.
A highlight was the special presentation from Stewart Campbell, managing director of BOAT International Media, who delivered a comprehensive analysis of the current superyacht market using exclusive BOATPro data. His session provided attendees with a clear view of global demand, shifting buyer behaviour and the emerging trends shaping the sector. Attendee and prospective owner Fred Burton was surprised by “the relatively short length of time of ownership of yachts in each segment” - a reminder of how fluid the ownership landscape can be.
The programme then turned to one of the most compelling aspects of ownership: commissioning a new build. Hosted by Cecile Gauert, editor of BOAT International US, a panel including RADYCA president Ramon Alonso, Armas Yachts Consulting owner Andrea Armas, Damen Yachting commercial director USA Jan van Hogerwou and founder of yacht management firm MCM Peter Wilson explored how to embark on the journey, from defining a clear vision to assembling the right team.
The discussion addressed the realities behind the romance, highlighting potential pitfalls such as budget creep and timeline pressures, while offering practical advice on how to maintain momentum and ensure a rewarding build experience.
Attention then shifted to the operational side of ownership in a session hosted by BOAT International Media's global editorial director, Ed Slack. Featuring P3 Marine CEO Reda Bedjaoui, Robert Allen Law founding partner Robert Allen and Hill Robinson USA president Barrett Wright, the panel examined the intricacies of yacht management, from regulatory compliance and crew oversight to financial administration.
The conversation provided valuable guidance on selecting the right management partner, with panellists outlining the critical questions owners should ask to safeguard both their asset and their experience. The session resonated with Burton, who said one of his biggest takeaways was the understanding that ownership often means “managing a hotel, business and people” simultaneously.
In a brokerage-focused discussion moderated by BOAT International editor Caroline White, Camper & Nicholsons CCO Europe and Middle East and global head of sales Benjamin Bensahel, Fraser executive vice president, COO and CCO Mike Busacca and TWW Yachts managing director David Westwood shared their expertise on navigating the purchase process.
Offering insight into market dynamics and deal-making strategies, the panel revealed how to identify the right yacht, avoid costly missteps and approach negotiations with confidence.
Rounding out the programme was an owner-led panel, once again hosted by Ed Slack, featuring experienced yacht owners Mark Mashburn and Matthew Voorhees. The discussion explored the realities of ownership beyond the glossy exterior, from the unparalleled lifestyle benefits to the practical challenges that arise along the way. Their insights underscored the importance of strong management, clear expectations and thoughtful planning in maximising the ownership experience.
Guests benefitted from networking opportunities, engaging directly with industry experts and peers navigating similar ownership ambitions. They could also marvel at two of Amels’ yacht models on display.
Superyacht Wine Bar served a selection of champagne and wine, complemented by coffee, tea and soft drinks throughout the afternoon. Passed canapés circulated during the sessions, while a coffee break featured freshly baked scones and mini yogurt parfaits. Attendees departed with branded gift bags from Amels.
For Burton, the event struck “a great balance between other yacht owners, prospective future owners and professionals", with "lots of good information and a worthwhile afternoon".
