Villa with a view: Villa Puddinga for sale on Portofino's seafront

The five-bedroom Villa Puddinga, located on Italy's Portofino seafront, is now up for sale. Olivia Michel discovers why this pink-hued property makes for the perfect summer home

Portofino rose to fame in the early 20th century when artists, writers and film stars began streaming to the Ligurian fishing village, drawn by its vividly coloured houses and golden sunlight. It remains an artists’ muse today: fashion designers Giorgio Armani, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana all have homes here. As a result, Villa Puddinga, a seafront property away from the crowds, is even more coveted than a berth in the ever-busy harbour.

The three-storey, five-bedroom Villa Puddinga features a blush pink and coral colour scheme.

A 1950s home spread over three floors, this five-bedroom property has all the charm and colour you’d expect from this romantic region. Hues of blush pink and coral, inspired by the rays of the setting sun, create a warm atmosphere throughout its contemporary interior. “The bedrooms all lead out to the long waterfront terrace, meaning you can wake up to the sound of the sea,” says Chris Ostet of LandCo Property, a Savills associate in Liguria.

Sitting on a cliff edge, the property’s proximity to the sea is arguably its greatest asset. There is an extensive second-storey balcony, and on the ground floor, a waterfront terrace leads to a diving board into the sea; there are also changing rooms and a small kitchen.

The property has a private jetty and can also be reached via the road through a discreet gate. There is a double garage just down the road (perhaps to house a new Ferrari Portofino). Other practical touches include accommodation for live-in staff and a professional kitchen.

Sitting on a cliff edge on Liguria's coast, the property’s proximity to the sea is arguably its greatest asset.

The property market is strong in this corner of the Italian Riviera. “On one side, Liguria is embraced by the Mediterranean, while on the other you’ll find the Ligurian hills,” explains Ostet. “That means there’s not a lot of space for property; new builds are not allowed and strict planning regulations are in place on existing properties.” And only a handful of waterfront properties in Portofino offer private sea access.

Villa Puddinga is for sale with LandCo Property, an international associate of Savills, POA.
