Michael Kirschstein

History

Superyacht designer Michael Kirschstein set up his yacht interior design studio in 1994, having previously worked for renowned superyacht designers Donald Starkey and Terence Disdale. He also brings hands-on experience of carpentry, having worked as ship’s carpenter on the privately owned square rigged sailing ship Sea Cloud. The studio undertakes both interior design and exterior styling projects.

Notable yachts

Current superyacht design projects include the interior design and exterior styling for the refit and restoration of the 1947 Bath Iron Works 51.8 metre superyacht Haida, the 33.8 metre motor yacht Sudami, and the 41 metre motor yacht Evolve being built at Inace in Brazil. Michael Kirschstein Designs was also responsible for the general arrangement and interior design of the 30 metre Boundless, also launched from Inace, and the refit interior design of Feadship’s 34.4 metre Eleanor Allen.

Specialisations

Aside from projects in build in Brazil at Inace, Kirschtein yacht concept have included Project X, a pair of 70 metre motor yacht designs being developed in collaboration with naval architect Greg Marshall, a classically style 74 metre motor yacht for a Middle Eastern client, and design work on the conversion of a 67.5 metre buoy tender into an explorer style superyacht.
