26 October 2018 • Written by Olivia Michel

After the success of The Superyacht Show in 2018, the superyacht marina OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona has announced that it will remain as the event’s host until 2021. The news confirms Barcelona’s emergence as a global superyacht hotspot.

Organised by LYBRA (Large Yacht Brokers´ Association), the event brings together brokers and buyers and is a showcase of some of the finest yachts available for sale and charter. The show presents exclusive buying opportunities for attendees, who can step on board to browse the selection on offer. This year, Port Vell welcomed 22 yachts as part of the event, all measuring more than 30 metres.

For OneOcean Port Vell, the announcement reinforces the high standard of the recently renovated harbour. As Ignacio Erroz, general manager at OneOcean Port Vell notes, “Hosting The Superyacht Show for the next three years is an exciting announcement for OneOcean Port Vell, and one that will enable us to showcase the marina’s outstanding beauty and extensive facilities catering to superyachts, whilst also cementing Barcelona’s status as a key yachting destination in the Mediterranean.”

Having re-opened in late 2016 after an €80 million redevelopment, the marina is a gateway to the city’s central hub where visitors can find five-star hotels, gourmet restaurants and plenty of cultural pursuits on shore. Port Vell has more than 150 moorings for yachts up to 190 metres, boasting one of the world’s longest docks at a length of 440 metres. The marina, which has its own private members club, has also played host to the MYBA Charter Show and the International Barcelona Boat Show. According to Raphael Sauleau, president of LYBRA, Port Vell “offers some of the best facilities and services in the region to cater for this kind of event."

Next year’s edition of The Superyacht Show is scheduled to take place in mid-May 2019 and is expecting to see a 30% increase in the number of superyachts involved. In partnership with the fleet on display, luxury brands and sponsors – which this year included Aston Martin, Bulgari and Airbus - will be on site to make the show a truly first-class experience.
