The Virtual BOAT Show talks to superyacht designer Jonny Horsfield, founder of H2 Yacht Design.
What developments have taken place at the company during the past few months?
Firstly, we have learned to work remotely as a team while trying to maintain our standards of design and creativity. This has been challenging as creative design requires face to face discussion! We have been working on a variety of new projects including residential projects, as well as a couple of new yacht projects.
How do you think the superyacht industry will change as a result of the coronavirus pandemic?
I think it has perhaps focused the clients' minds on the potential advantages of owning a yacht in these times and also made them realise that their yacht is more important to them than ever. New projects are no longer about charter potential but more about clients' individual needs and requirements.
What has been the most enjoyable experience during your time as CEO?
At the end of the day I am just a designer like my team and managing any team has challenges that you don’t learn at art school! I sometimes feel like the conductor of an orchestra and it's immensely satisfying to see the end results of that concert when the yacht is delivered to a happy customer!
What has been your greatest challenge?
Remaining relevant and competitive without selling my soul completely!
How do you foresee the company evolving over the next five years?
I think that we have the benefit of a very broad portfolio and this will keep us busy I hope. I would like to continue to develop my senior team members to help spread the demands but I am looking forward to developing the next generation of superyachts in the near future.
