Fergus Torrance at Titan, Hyde & Torrance tells me that he and Nicholas Edmiston of Edmiston & Company have signed a joint central agency for sale of the 54.86m classic superyacht Madiz.
Delivered in 1902 by Scotland's Ailsa shipyard, the superyacht saw service in both World Wars and has had several distinguished owners, the current one having owned her for over 40 years. After a major refit in 2003-2006, Madiz was reclassed Lloyds + 100A1 making her the oldest steel-hulled vessel to be in class with Lloyds. Her classic lines incorporate accommodation for 14 guests in seven staterooms and much of her interior retains the original teak, oak and mahogany panelling.
When she was last for sale in 1968, Christie's the auctioneer, described the superyacht as, "Probably the oldest yacht of her size in commission and still in class at Lloyds. As such, she is as rare as a Rembrandt." Available for viewing in Athens, Greece, Madiz_'s_ asking price is €7.8 million.
