Flyboards are this season’s must-have water toy

Requests from charter clients are evolving all the time, but Miriam Cain from Camper & Nicholsons has noticed one trend in particular: “We have had quite a few requests for flyboards to be included in the water toys list.”

An increasingly popular sight in the Mediterranean, flyboards can be used to perform spectacular on-water tricks, but crew need to be properly trained in how to use them, as Aidan Gerry, chief officer on board 50 metre charter yacht Resilience, recently told Boat International:

“We hired an instructor for a two hour session to show us the equipment, how to rig it and to teach us to pilot it, as nobody on-board had used one before. You have to trust the crew and ensure that their training has been effective before letting them loose with the guests. A helmet and a buoyancy aid need to be worn and we have a minimum user age of 16.”

Despite acknowledging the risks involved, Gerry believes that flyboards bring a “different dynamic to the watersports equipment on offer” and adds: “I feel much safer having guests on a flyboard than letting guests ride off on a Jetski on their own.”
