Top 6 facts about the build of Galactica Super Nova

The largest Heesen Yacht to date

As the Heesen Yachts flagship Galactica Super Nova makes its Monaco Yacht Show debut this week, we reveal 6 key facts about the build of this spectacular superyacht.

Measuring 70.07 metre LOA, she is the largest Heesen yacht to date — more than 5 metres longer than the Dutch yard’s previous flagship Galactica Star.

A total of 10 TVs were fitted across three decks

The audio visual system on board Galactica Super Nova is every bit as impressive as you might imagine. Heesen teamed up with long-time supplier VBH to create a sophisticated set-up that allows music to be broadcast to individual cabins or transmitted to all rooms. A grand total of ten televisions can be found on board, including this one in the saloon, which can be concealed when not in use.

Ameet Sarvayia, chief technical offer at VBH, told Boat International that the design of the audio visual system was incorporated into the build process at a very early stage. “We were able to work with the engineering team right from the start of the project and that allowed us to put a lot of new technology on board,” he added.

More than 4,000 metres of LED lighting was installed

Creating a bright and impressive interior is imperative for a yacht of this size, and concealed LED string lights were the key to this. Heesen used more than 4,000 metres of these to brighten up all six cabins and the two main saloons.

The foredeck cinema screen measures nine metres square

One of the stand-out features on Galactica Super Nova is the foredeck cinema screen, which measures nine metres square and is supported by carbon poles. VBH also fitted night-time lighting into this area, so that it can easily be transformed from an outdoor cinema to a superyacht night club.

Her engines are as powerful as 16 F1 cars

For most yachts, having two 5,766hp MTU 20V4000M93L engines would be more than sufficient, but Galactica Super Nova is no ordinary yacht.

Heesen added a 4,613hp MTU 16V4000M93L booster engine, which brings the total power output to a staggering 16,145hp. This means that Galactica Super Nova generates as much power as 16 Formula 1 cars.

She achieved 30 knots on her delivery voyage

All this power is for a good reason — the owner of Galactica Super Nova specified a top speed of at least 30 knots.

When she was delivered in May, Heesen was proud to report that Galactica Super Nova exceed this target, topping out at 30.3 knots, despite facing 1.5 metre waves on her maiden voyage.
