Dutch yard Amels has announced that sea trials have commenced for Project Tanzanite, a 120-metre build that now has the title of the largest Dutch-built motor yacht in history. Over the course of the next year, more than 1,000 craftspeople will be working on the mammoth project as she prepares for her final delivery in 2026.
The 6,083GT, full-custom superyacht was last seen this September, when she was launched from Damen Yachting's facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Project Tanzanite is also the largest member of the Amels fleet, surpassing the current 89-metre flagship Here Comes The Sun by a staggering 31 metres.
Damen Yachting has completed the naval architecture in-house, with the client represented throughout the build and final construction phase by Deeside Maritime.
Her exterior is by veteran designer Espen Øino, who has worked with the yard on a number of projects in the last two years. Their shared portfolio includes the Amels 60, the Amels 80 and the 77.8-metre custom project Energy. Meanwhile, her interiors have been conceived by Nice-based studio Zuretti Design. Renderings reveal a warm, contemporary aesthetic that incorporates a cream and brown palette, curved furniture and statement walls in wood and marble.
The yacht arrived in the Netherlands from Damen Yachting's hull-building site in Galati, Romania. The hull was launched at the shipyard in May 2023, in a ceremony attended by local school children from the area.
Amels project manager Jeroen Waalewijn said at the time: "The launch of the hull was an emotional yet incredible moment for all of those who have played such an integral part in the realisation of [Project Tanzanite] so far. To see her out on the water and to now have her here in Vlissingen is a testament to the entire project team."
Project Tanzanite incorporates the latest in design and technology, including diesel-electric engines and Azipod electric propulsion, which will help her "operate with the lowest levels of noise and vibration ever recorded on a yacht of this size", according to the yard.
According to BOATPro, Amels has 11 superyacht projects on order or under construction. This includes five units from its incredibly popular Amels 80 series.
