55m Amels yacht Amigos arrives at Royal Balk Shipyard for major refit

The 55-metre Amels motor yacht Amigos has arrived at Royal Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands to undergo a major refit. 

The refit programme will include aesthetic enhancements to her exterior and interior, in addition to technical works in preparation for her 10-year class survey. Owner's representative Ryacht Monaco will be overseeing the works, following the yacht's recent sale, where Ralph de Joode of the brokerage firm introduced the current owner to the build. 

Amigos was delivered in 2017 as the 10th unit from Amels' Limited Editions 180 series – which was later discontinued in 2020 – designed by Tim Heywood with interiors by Laura Sessa Design. Her current clean profile is defined by prominent glazing, "bubble balconies" and a neutral beige hull - differing from that of her sisterships, including the all-white Galene and the navy-hulled La Familia. 

Following a summer season in the Mediterranean, Amigos will spend the winter period in the Netherlands, where she will be "completely serviced and imbued with numerous enhancements" designed around her new owner's personality and lifestyle. The yacht's interior changes will be supported by the original contractor, Metrica.

Sales director at Royal Balk Shipyard, Niels Lensen, said: "Amigos represents our core market: Dutch pedigree yachts, originally built by one of our exceptional neighbouring shipyards. She is back home."

The shipyard recently celebrated the redelivery of the 45-metre Royal Hakvoort motor yacht Awatea earlier this year, after she completed an extensive seven-month refit at its facilities.
