Designers provide insight into newly launched Custom Line Navetta 38

The designers responsible for Custom Line's new Navetta 38 have shed some light on choices that went into the design, along with freshly released renderings.

Speaking at a virtual roundtable organised by Ferretti Group, Filippo Salvetti and Patricia Viel of Citterio Viel said they wanted to respect the nautical tradition of the Navetta series while balancing a young, sporty style and ensuring a strong connection between indoor and outdoor areas. This is evident in key features like the 70-square metre beach area and the glazing that circles the sundeck.

The 38.8-metre displacement yacht, which has already sold four units, is an evolution of the yard's popular Navetta line. Built in GRP and sitting under the 300GT threshold, the first hull was launched in February at the Ancona facility and is expected to see delivery in the coming months.

The yacht's design reunites the same minds behind the Navetta 50 and Navetta 30 to create "magnificent new balances between form and function", according to Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi.

By "taking control of the natural light", the design team has managed to enhance the feeling of space on board, according to Viel. As well as glazing, mirrored surfaces and a "delicate" sand and ivory palette contribute to the airy feeling on board. This is further enhanced by the use of blonde wood oak panels that cover the ceilings on both interior and exterior decks.

Custom-made furniture and materials including linen and parchment feature prominently across the Navetta 38, alongside soft-finish leather that appears extensively in the owner's cabin.

Meanwhile, on the exterior, Salvetti said he wanted the Navetta 38 to look more like a ship than a superyacht. "There are no vertical lines to interrupt the horizontal lines," he pointed out.

Al fresco highlights include a forward lounge area, 15-metre-long sundeck and generous beach club with gunwales that fold out over the water.

The yacht has a beam of eight metres

Accommodation on the Custom Line Navetta 38 is split across five cabins, including a main deck owner's cabin of over 40 square metres. Crew quarters are for a total of seven crew.

The standard engine package comprises a pair of MAN 1,400hp engines that deliver a top speed of 15 knots, with a range of about 2,800 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots.

The yacht will make its debut at the Venice Boat Show. Elsewhere at the Ancona facility, Custom Line is preparing to launch its first aluminium Navetta 50
