Dynamic Supercats, a sister company of Dynamic Boats, has announced the sale of a 38 metre catamaran named Project Garfield.
The project was commissioned by experienced owners looking to upgrade their existing 25 metre yacht and will be the first large-scale project for the Miami-based boat builder.
For the new build, the owners required a shallow draft, high freeboard and expansive outdoor spaces. After finding nothing that suited on the brokerage market, the owners turned to Cantu Design and DFD Design to develop a new custom catamaran.
“We struggled to find something that checked all the boxes and gave the owner the feel and features they desired to have on board," explained captain Jon Bellemare. "Additionally, they want to venture to remote parts of the world in the future as a family. These items and more all came into play when developing this cat."
A connection to the water was central to the design of Project Garfield and has been achieved through the use of floor-to-ceiling windows and an aft tender platform that can be lowered to the water to create a full-beam beach club directly accessible from the aft cabins. “We created a timeless exterior with flowing curves and large open spaces, you truly feel like you have an open deck to play on,” said John Cantu of Cantu Design.
Accommodation is for up to 12 guests and the common areas, such as the main saloon, are set up for social gatherings. The galley, for example, is placed adjacent to the main saloon at the request of the owners.
Other highlights include a large foredeck with recessed seating areas, a protected flybridge with a small pool and a spread of sun pads on the aft deck.
On the technical side, Project Garfield will deliver a top speed of 14 knots and is capable of transpacific crossings thanks to a diesel-electric propulsion system. As well as offering a more sustainable alternative to traditional diesel engines, the setup will provide guests with 24 hours of silent running when at anchor. Other technical features include retractable centreboards, a large centre board and a tall cross-deck clearance.
Project Garfield spent three years in development and will start construction in December with a 24 month build schedule.
