Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has released full details on its first 74Steel superyacht model – the flagship of the line – ahead of her launch this week. The new series already has three hulls sold and a fourth under negotiation, with the owners of subsequent launches curating custom interiors, layouts and even different bow configurations that have impacted the LOA of individual units.

This hybrid vessel measures 72 metres and saw Sanlorenzo team up once again with Zuccon International Project and Francesco Paszkowski Design, in collaboration with Margherita Casprini. A key element of the first 74Steel is its diesel-electric system, engineered in-house in collaboration with Siemens Energy. The propulsion setup frees up the layout by making it possible to repurpose technical spaces for recreational areas, as seen in the beach club and spa, which are "significantly larger" than those on a conventional yacht of a similar size.

At 1,900GT, the 74Steel has plenty of room for leisure, though Sanlorenzo chairman and CEO Massimo Perotti emphasised that the yard was challenging the idea that "size equals excess" with this flagship model. "We're demonstrating that we can apply the same refinement and precision you’d expect from Sanlorenzo, even in this new, larger category," he added.

One of the model's major features is an extensive wellness area, which makes full use of the yacht's 13.1-metre beam with a massage room, sauna, Hammam plunge pool and family room for younger guests. The owner's cabin is also worthy of note, as it enjoys a dedicated deck with a private hot tub and dining, two spa-inspired bathrooms, a lounge and an office.

The main deck is the major area reserved for guests, arranged with lounge areas and five spacious cabins, while the sundeck will undoubtedly be the main social hub with its bar and forward firepit and hot tub, flanked by sunpads. A transparent glass windbreak under the hardtop protects guests when the breeze picks up.

Other highlights include a touch-and-go helipad, formal dining on the main deck and two tender garages amidships which house a 10-metre Pascoe limo tender and the crew tender, as well as a range water toys.

The interiors are dominated by matte wood finishes and eclectic materials for "vibrancy and uniqueness"

"From a brand perspective, this is a pivotal moment for Sanlorenzo," added Perotti. "This is our most ambitious project, and it marks a new pinnacle in our steel range, but the 74Steel is more than just our largest yacht. It’s a statement of our values, representing elegance, restraint and the purity of living life at sea."

The 74Steel was sold in November 2021 by Edmiston and has dethroned the shipyard's current flagship, Attila, by an extra six metres. According to BOATPro, Sanlorenzo has a staggering 46 superyacht projects on order or actively under construction, three of which belong to its brand-new SX120 series.
