Melita Marine expands with Tarragona shipyard acquisition

Maltese superyacht refit yard Melita Marine has expanded into Spain after acquiring Shipyard Tarragona.

Pierre Balzan, Chairman of Melita Marine Group, said: “We are very proud to have struck this partnership with our Spanish colleagues. By spreading its wings on both sides of the Mediterranean basin, our Group now offers superyacht industry all the services they need, whenever they are in the locations we operate and or need us to fly to their location.”

Shipyard Tarragona has a maximum haul-out length of 50 metres

Founded in late 2016, Shipyard Tarragona covers a total area in excess of 15,000 square metres, including more than 3,000 square metres of workshop space.

The 180 metre technical quay ensures that it can accommodate the world’s largest superyachts, while the travel lift is suitable for hauling yachts up to 50 metres.

Melita Marine Group dates back to 1989 and now features sites in Malta and Greece, as well as Spain, with a maximum dry dock capacity of 100 metres.

Notable refit projects include the include the 70 metre Lürssen superyacht Martha Ann, whose captain praised the yard’s ability to deliver on time and on budget.
