Nuvolari Lenard has revealed a 100 metre “megasailer” superyacht concept named Vento at the Venice Boat Show.
Designed for a “realistic return to sustainable sailing”, Vento is described by the studio as a “radical concept” that “integrates all the parameters of pure sailing with the needs of today’s superyacht owner.”
Designed to be as efficient as possible, Vento features a powerful and aggressive profile, as well as a reverse bow that extends the waterline length for increased stability and performance.
Vento will be built in aluminium with superstructures and masts built from advanced composite. The light and long hull will have less residual resistance, resulting in less drag.
The efficient hull will be matched by a wing-sail sail plan, which is designed in collaboration with Omer Wing-Sail. The 2100 square metre wing-sail rig features a smaller sail area for the same performance as a traditional rig, the studio said. The rig, which is supported by carbon masts measuring 64 metres, will also result in less heeling force.
Additionally, Vento will be equipped with a hybrid diesel/ electric system with varied speed generators and variable pitch propellers.
Accommodation will comprise six double cabins: four VIP, one “super VIP” and a large master suite forward of the main deck, complete with a private terrace. Outdoor spaces meanwhile include a flybridge, spa and beach club.
Speaking about the concept, studio co-founder Carlo Nuvolari said: “Being environmentally conscious has to become a way of being, as well as a way of thinking. There's nothing stopping us from thinking about a truly green large yacht.
“It's not difficult to achieve major results, you just have to stop being traditionalist and take a risk, going back to the basics: building a sailing yacht that really uses sails and is really efficient.”
