Dutch boat builder Rapsody Yachts has announced plans to build its biggest boat to date, an 80ft retro-styled gentleman's yacht called the R80.

The R80 will have a modern aluminium hull with a retro look to conform to the other Rapsody models that also have retro looks and fast sailing capabilities. The interior will be custom made for each customer and 'only the finest materials' will be used.

'We are delighted to announce the R80 as our biggest yacht in the Rapsody line-up,' commented Marketing and Sales manager Diederik van Golen. 'The development of the 80ft superyacht is based on the Rapsody vision - build the ultimate yacht by bringing together the best characteristics from historic and modern classics, add own insights and create a unique and distinctive look.'

'This design was inspired by the Chris Craft Conqueror, a stylish yacht from the '50s and '60s, commented designer Arnold de Ruyter. 'Of course, it still needed to get the Rapsody look and that is why I used some new design cues. Normally, yachts of this size have a high stern and when you sit at the rear deck you loose connection with the water. The split-level concept in this Rapsody gives the yacht a low profile, creates a lot of space and the hydraulic stern is perfect for all different kinds of water sports.'
