Sanlorenzo unveils 58Steel yacht model with all-new hybrid propulsion

Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has unveiled the 58Steel, a new addition to the builder's Steel series and a "refined and extended" successor to the yard's established 57Steel line.

The 58-metre model is fitted with an all-new diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, alongside a reimagined concept of onboard space and an expanded beam of 10.8 metres. Zuccon International Project is behind the model's highly customisable design, which is said to take inspiration from her smaller predecessor but has evolved to offer volumes comparable with a 64-metre yacht.

The first unit from the new series, Perla Lunar, has already been delivered following a sale completed by Arcon Yachts. The yard also revealed that the second 58Steel hull is now under construction.

“The 58Steel embodies the belief of a superyacht that redefines proportion, privacy and performance, offering a new dimension of silent, sustainable cruising,” explained Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo. “It represents our ambition to remain the benchmark in yachts up to 2,000 GT, with our expanded steel line now spanning six individual superyachts that set the standard for design and desirability.”

Sanlorenzo’s in-house Style Department is responsible for the model's custom interiors, which are characterised by a warm and tactile colour palette. Dark woods are paired with Calacatta Borghini marble, mother-of-pearl and champagne-finished accents for what the yard describes to be a "sense of understated luxury".

Accommodation for guests is across two full-beam VIP cabins on the lower deck and a "Supreme VIP" on the main deck. The owner is treated to an upper deck "sanctuary", where a panoramic suite with a spa bathroom and full-height glazing is complemented by a pool, office, dressing area, and a lounge which can convert into a private cinema.

Aside from a lavish owner's suite, a highlight of the new model can be found at the stern, where a beach club opens on three sides to create a "floating terrace". Here, guests can enjoy a bar, hammam, gym and a beauty salon. The bridge deck has also been upgraded, with an additional one metre added to its length and a redesign to "enhance both aesthetics and functionality". Inside, a large main deck lounge opens seamlessly to the aft deck glass-bottomed infinity pool.

Key to the 58Steel is Sanlorenzo's new diesel-electric propulsion system: a first of its kind in the yard's Steel line. The hybrid system is set to reduce emissions by around 10 per cent compared to conventional propulsion, enabling up to two hours of silent cruising or up to eight hours of zero-emissions hotel load at anchor.

Five 425kW generators and a one MWh capacity battery pack comprise the modular design, while azimuthal pods offer improved manoeuvrability in addition to noise and vibration reduction. Notably, the entire engine room has been re-engineered to occupy a single deck, freeing up more than 40 square metres of space for the guest accommodation and beach areas.

“This yacht represents evolution, not repetition. With its diesel-electric propulsion system at the core, the 58Steel unlocks new horizons of freedom: more space, more light, greater efficiency and a profound connection to the sea," added Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO of Sanlorenzo.“Each detail reflects our time-honoured DNA - elegance, restraint and experiential purity - reaffirming our commitment to meaningful innovation in harmony with design."

According to BOATPro, Sanlorenzo currently has 46 yachts on order or under construction, including the first flagship 74Steel superyacht, which was launched in October.
