German studio Focus Yacht Design has lifted the lid on a new 60-metre concept named Scala. The vessel is designed to be an “ocean villa superyacht”, with an exterior design that blends elements of maritime aesthetics with those of land architecture.
Built from a SWATH platform (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull), Scala’s hull design reduces motion sickness, increases sea-worthiness and offers greater stability when on the water.
With a unique geometric profile and 24-metre beam, the design also enables a surprisingly lofty living space. There are six-metre-high rooms, with each area having a minimum height of three metres – a feature “typically only possible with land architecture,” according to Focus Yacht Design. Exterior renderings also reveal floor-to-ceiling windows and generous walkaround decks, furthering the superyacht's impressive sense of space.
Key design features include a forward-facing panoramic lounge and a completely underwater glazed lounge, engineered by the superyacht’s submerged tubing. The highest point in Scala is its atrium and entrance, which at 6.5 metres, “creates a grand sense of arrival” for those stepping inside.
On deck, a 400-square-metre sundeck serves as the major convivial area, complete with a pool and fully certified helipad.
"As Scala sails across the world's most beautiful coastlines, it offers its residents an unparalleled sense of freedom," said Thomas Mühe, CEO of Focus Yacht Design. "For those who look for a home that transcends traditional boundaries, Scala is the epitome of living a life unfettered by limitations — a sanctuary that can call any corner of the globe home."
While a possible speed has not been divulged, Scala is envisioned with a transatlantic range.
