Organisers of New Zealand’s Millennium Cup superyacht regatta have announced the event will move 145 miles along the coast from the Bay of Islands to the city of Auckland for the 2024 edition.
The event, which is supported by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and held from 23rd to 26th February 2024, will bring the South Pacific regatta away from the Bay of Islands’ remote, natural harbour and into New Zealand’s largest city.
It is hoped the move will offer participants and visitors easier access to the event thanks to Auckland’s major airport. It also hopes to improve the experience for superyacht owners, as the regatta will now be held in close proximity to the country’s major superyacht marinas such as Silo Marina and Orams Marina.
“As our sister regatta, the Superyacht Cup Palma, gets underway this week, we’re very pleased to share the New Zealand Millennium Cup will add its name to the superyacht regattas raced in the heart of major cities,” said organiser Stacey Cook. “When the New Zealand Millennium Cup is raced, it will be with Auckland, the City of Sails, as its backdrop.”
Entry to the regatta will open soon with entry forms available on the event's website.
The news comes after the dates of the 37th America’s Cup, which will be hosted in Barcelona in 2024, were announced in December.
