Italian architect and superyacht designer Tommaso Spadolini has revealed a new 48.5-metre motor yacht concept. Designed for enjoying long journeys with large families, the concept has been envisioned with a range of 4,500 nautical miles and generous living areas, including an aft swim platform.

The concept, created for the owners of a 35-metre yacht, incorporates a number of specially-requested features, including expansive aft spaces, a specified layout and a convivial flybridge dedicated to relaxation.

“There had to be large windows, the owner's suite had to be located on the main deck towards the bow, with the four guest and four crew cabins on the lower deck; the captain's quarters had to be on the upper deck,” said Spadolini, who has worked on yachts such as 29.2-metre Passepartout.

“Then the tender, the Seabobs and an Optimist had to occupy the forward area, to leave room aft for a gym and for a large swim platform, which included folding topsides to expand its size–a solution that further increases contact with the sea and the surrounding environment,” he added.

If realised, the interior would comprise a master suite, an additional four guest cabins, an 11-metre main saloon and a seven-metre upper deck skylounge. There would be four crew cabins, plus a captain's quarters on the upper deck.

The concept has a range of 4,500 nm when cruising at an economic speed of 10.5 knots

The yacht’s exterior profile takes on a “classic trending to modern” style. “We were expressly asked for a semi-vertical bow and other specific choices: for example, the flybridge must have large free areas and, for this reason, the classic hydromassage tub was not included; it will essentially be a huge solarium with furniture that can be combined for the occasion,” Spadolini said.

The yacht would feature a displacement steel hull with an alumimium superstructure, and would be powered by twin Caterpillar diesel engines, delivering a top speed of 16.5 knots. The addition of numerous solar panels is an added bonus for the owners who, the designer revealed, bear an environmentally-conscious mindset.
