Video: Damen launches first SeaXplorer

The first hull in Damen's SeaXplorer range has been launched.

A video has captured the moment the SeaXplorer 65 glided into the water at Damen’s Romania based yard.

The SeaXplorer 65 is the first model in a new range of Damen expedition yachts ranging between 65 and 100 metres that were first revealed at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show.

The SeaXplorer 65 was sold in August 2016 and is scheduled for a 2019 delivery.

The model combines luxury with commercial ship capabilities and offers accommodation for 12 guests, with space for 20 crew.

The Damen SeaXplorer team has worked with EYOS Expeditions — who organise trips to incredible ice destinations with superyachts — to ensure that the range will have an exceptional expedition performance.

Azure Yacht Design has been responsible for creating the “off road” appearance of the SeaXplorer yachts. The design features Damen’s patented Sea Axe hull, which has been strengthened to enable the explorer yacht to easily cut through ice.

The SeaXplorer range is designed to give guests a new sense of freedom, as each yacht will be capable of spending 40 days in between port calls. Each of the new Damen explorer yachts will also be able to carry up to two helicopters as well as a selection of tenders, toys and submersibles.
