Yacht Club de Monaco offers cyber security course for captains and crew

15 March 2021

A new course offered by Yacht Club de Monaco’s La Belle Classe Academy will train captains and crew in defending yachts from cyber-attacks.

This new bespoke online course focusing on cybersecurity will be held by Alexandre Bayeux, engineer and partner at Xperys, and comes after the IMO introduced new rules on yacht cybersecurity on January 1.

The La Belle Classe Academy is also offering a yachting masterclass to give participants a complete overview of the industry.

The new module will include two courses. First, crew members will be equipped with the tools needed to protect a yacht from a cyber-attack in “Cybersecurity essentials for a yacht”, which will take place in French on March 25 and in English on April 1. The second course meanwhile, titled “How to manage the crew and suppliers”, will take place on April 15 in English. The course will include day-to-day activities, what to do in the event of a cyberattack and analyse VIP hacking case studies.

Captains and crew will also address the human factor in cybersecurity breaches and be encouraged to view the crew as the first line of defence in cyber protection. Registrations can be made at labelleclasseacademy.com.
