2017 Young Designer of the Year Award task revealed

The task for the Young Designer of the Year Award 2017 has now been announced and registration is open for entries. Organised by Boat International Media with continued sponsorship from world renowned shipbuilder Oceanco.

These awards are open to Students and Trainee designers throughout the world where they will be recognised and celebrated for their original concepts. They are tasked with a realistic client request that will challenge their creativity, technical knowledge, and aptitude for timely delivery. The task is set to provide valuable and authentic insight into the reality of working as a designer within the superyacht industry.

For the first time ever, there will be two winners chosen from the two categories, Student and Trainee designers. In addition to the golden Neptune trophy for each category, the Student winner will receive €5,000 and the Trainee designer will receive €2,000.

The coveted gold Neptune has quickly become a badge of distinction among the industry’s design professionals. The award provides the winners with the unique opportunity to receive critical acclaim in front of an international audience of superyacht owners, designers, and industry leaders and enables them to network with the most influential players in the industry.

Please note, to qualify, entrants must be 25 years or less on the 1 January 2017. Deadline for entries is 30 November 2016.

The top 3 finalists in both the Student and Trainee categories, chosen by a jury comprised of 17 leading yacht designers, will receive complimentary access to the ShowBoats Design Awards in conjunction with the Superyacht Design Symposium in February 2017 in Kitzbühel, Austria. Here they will be exposed to a variety of opportunities to advance their careers.

Additionally, the top 6 Student designers will receive an all-expenses paid visit to Oceanco’s shipyard in the Netherlands in May. For those who don’t make the final stages of the competition, there will be an opportunity to purchase a special Young Designers discounted ticket.
