Insider: superyachts gather at the 31st Newport Charter show

The Newport Charter Show, now in its 31st year opened with a fleet of 24 sailing and motor yachts ranging from 15metres to 76m+. The show runs for four days and is focused on providing captains, crew, owners, brokers and press with all the information they need to provide a full experience to charter guests in New England.

Located in the picturesque town of Newport, Rhode Island, the show is now operated by the Newport Harbour Corporation (NHC).

The show kicked off on Monday June 17, 2013 with a seminar on what entertainment technology we can expect in the coming years on board superyachts with Scott Martinez, director of Bluewater Technologies, who predicted that we may start to see more integration with superyachts and Apple products. “Centralised Media Systems. In particular I have been working with Apple products to utilise the already established Apple TV, and MacMinis. By using these devices, charter guests can stream any movie they want straight to an Ipad/Iphone anywhere on the vessel, or they can stream their own pictures/movies/music directly onto the onboard technological system via Apples Airplay system,” cites Martinez. Something to keep an eye on in the future.

The annual culinary competition began with yachts 99ft and under. This year’s theme is, ‘a taste of the sea: New England seafood chowder’. The competition continues on Tuesday with yachts 99ft and over, with the prize giving at the end of the day.

Each day there will be a series of other seminars including the American Yacht Charter Association’s (AYCA) continuation of its Educational and Informative Seminars.

The Seminar—which will be held on Wednesday, June 19 will feature Brian Butler, AYCA’s marketing/motivational segment speaker in 2012 as MC. Hay House author and executive dream producer, Jennifer Grace will be the keynote Speaker. Her motivational topic will be: “Directing Your Destiny: How to Become the Writer, Producer, and Director of Your Dreams”

The Seminar is sponsored by: MYBA, ISS-Global Marine Travel, Boat International Media/CharterFleet.com, National Marine Suppliers and Florida Yacht Brokers Association.

The word on the docks was that there is still a lot of availability for charter in New England this summer on a number of the sailing and motor yachts.
