Celebs 6 favourite Caribbean destinations

St Barts

Roman Abramovich

No island in the Caribbean has a more glamorous reputation than St Barts and every year plenty of celebrities are spotted on yachts in the island's waters.

Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich has helped to maintain the islands status by hosting a lavish New Year party at his Caribbean residence. Roman Abrmovich’s yacht Eclipse, one of the largest yachts in the world, is also frequently moored in Gustavia.

As well as Roman Abramovich other celebrities who frequently holiday on the island include supermodel Kate Moss, Simon Cowell and Paul McCartney.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is one of many sport stars frequently spotted on luxury yachts. The three times Formula One world champion took some time out to enjoy a vacation in Barbados earlier this year.

Joined by pop star Rihanna, Lewis Hamilton attended the annual Kadooment Day celebrations and partied the day away in Bridgetown.

As well as enjoying the carnival atmosphere Lewis Hamilton also spent time relaxing in a fishing boat and enjoyed a spot of paddle boarding with his bulldog Coco.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

While St Barts has a reputation for celebrities, no island is more associated with the British royal family than Mustique. Princess Margaret put the tiny island on the map in the 1960s and the Queen and Prince Philip have also made several visits to the island.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have now taken to holidaying on the tiny island.

For their “babymoon” before the birth of Prince George they rented a luxury house on the island. The couple have been spotted on boats during their vacations and are thought to have enjoyed some of the Caribbean’s best scuba dives.

Staniel Cay, Bahamas

LeBron James

NBA star LeBron James was joined by his former Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade for a luxury yacht charter in the Bahamas earlier this summer.

Le Bron James vacationed on board Amarula Sun, one of the best charter yachts with exciting water toys, and was spotted enjoying a banana boat ride near Staniel Cay.

The group spent several days anchored off Staniel Cay and made the trip across to Big Major's Spot to swim with the pigs — an activity on many people’s Caribbean bucket list.

Antigua

Oprah Winfrey has in the past enjoyed a luxury yacht charter in the Mediterranean during the summer, but for her winter sun she has a permanent base in Antigua. The stunning waterside residence near Galley Bay offers beautiful views out onto the ocean. Her famous neighbours on the island include Eric Clapton and owner of superyacht Main Giorgio Armani.

Oprah Winfrey also owns a private jet making it easier for her to visit the luxury residence.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones

The home for the 2017 America’s Cup, Bermuda is also transforming into a celebrity destination. Two of the islands most high profile residents are Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones. Michael Douglas’ mother was originally from Bermuda and the couple are reported to have had huge family parties on the island in the past.

The actor is also in the process of redeveloping Ariel Sands Hotel on the island, which is due to reopen in 2017.
