Great Barrier Reef not placed on World Heritage danger list

In July UNESCO voted not to put Australia's Great Barrier Reef on the world 'danger list'. The Australian Government welcomed the result but environmental groups raised concerns that the decision could lead to complacency.

Australia submitted a 35-year plan for the reef, which includes a plan to reduce pollution by 80 per cent by 2025, in March. UNESCO reiterated that the plan must be implemented and the government will be required to give a progress report next December.
