Sea Spa: Get Your Wellness Fix at Six Senses Krabey Island, Cambodia
by Sophia Wilson
Where is Six Senses Krabey Island?
With tropical islets, pristine beaches and emerald waters you would expect Cambodia’s coastline to be teeming with luxury hotels, but the tourism industry has been slow to move in – which is what makes Six Senses’ first foray into the country so exciting. Situated on the edges of Kompong Som Bay off the country's southern coast, the private, rainforest-covered island has been worth the wait. 40 glass-walled villas, all with infinity pools, stand ready to welcome guests for an idyllic retreat.
What's it Like?
Unsurprisingly for a brand that has been at the forefront of the wellness revolution, no expense has been spared on the spa. Inspired by the modernist architecture that Cambodia is famous for, cool stone corridors offer relaxation and meditation areas, steam rooms galore and even an alchemy bar where you can create your own potions (or just a herb-infused sea salt bath scrub to take home).
What Treatments Can You Have at Six Senses Krabey Island?
A wellness screening is on offer (using finger oximeters and non-invasive electrodes to test key biomarkers) but if you are more into Pinot than personal training while on holiday, the full hitlist of Six Senses treatments is on the menu. Go local with the 60-minute Khmer Salt and Herb Scrub: dead skin will be buffed away before a handmade blend of Kampot sea salt and local Khmer herbs is applied. Finally, nourishing coconut oil will be massaged gently into your skin.
Best by Boat
You might have to unravel a lot of red tape to visit by yacht but there is a plethora of islands near Sihanoukville to anchor off. Krabey Island is equipped with its own private jetty to tender into.
