The successful 2021 Explorer Yachts Summit held in Monaco on November, 11 covered all areas within the explorer yacht sector. Here are just some of the highlights:
The event was hosted by British sailor and Olympic gold medallist, Shirley Robertson OBE.
The discussion: Kitted out for adventure
Led by BOAT’s Sophia Wilson, the chat moved on to how best to set up a yacht for exploration, what equipment should be carried and what to expect with advice from Triton’s Craig Barnett, Superyacht Tenders & Toys and Enrique Tintore, SeaXplorer Design Manager from the event’s associate sponsor, Damen Yachting BV.
The discussion: Crowd sourced bathymetry
With more yachts going off the beaten track than ever before, Dr Mathias Jonas Secretary-General from the IHO helped uncover why the charting that is often relied on might be wildly out of date – and what to do about it.
The discussion: Shipyard insights
With Vasco Buonpensiere Co-founder, Sales and Marketing Director of Cantiere delle Marche, Rob Luijendijk Director Sales and Product Management at Damen Yachting BV and Arksen’s COO Ewan Hind on stage, attendees heard what owners are demanding of shipyards, what tools, toys and capabilities are now required in explorer yachts, and how client demographics are changing.
The discussion: New frontiers
With so many new locations opening up for superyachts and their guests to explore, the stage was handed over to Sacha Williams Director of Charter Marketing, Camper & Nicholsons, Tim Soper Founding Partner, EYOS Expeditions and John Crupi Captain of yacht Dorothea III who were able to give a unique insight into the current travel trends.
Guests from all areas of the industry were given valuable insights into the world of explorer yachts as well as the opportunity to network.
