24 September 2020 • Written by Jennifer Read-Dominguez

Black Friday is typically the largest shopping weekend of the year but Black Friday 2020 is set to be the biggest online shopping event ever, amid the backdrop of Covid-19.

In the US, retailers are giving their staff Thanksgiving off this year, with the stores not opening due to the ongoing global pandemic. As a result, this year it’s expected that American’s will spend an estimated $58billion over the Black Friday weekend, while the UK are predicted to spend £7billion in online sales.

Waiting until Boxing Day to dive into online sales is a thing of the past. Here’s everything you need to know about Black Friday 2020 and the best deals and discounts on offer this year.

When is Black Friday 2020?

Black Friday sales always take place the day after Thanksgiving in the US. This year, Black Friday falls on November 27 so although Black Friday 2020 should start then, many retailers launch early deals in an attempt to entice more customers.

When is Cyber Monday 2020?

Black Friday 2020 deals will continue over Saturday and Sunday before Cyber Monday comes just three days later.

This year, Cyber Monday falls on November 30, with some sales stretching across the entire four-day period. Cyber Monday started in 2005, when an American trade association noticed a spike in online sales the Monday after Thanksgiving, but the world's shift towards e-commerce has made Cyber Monday less relevant. You'll find that the best online deals are announced from Black Friday through to Cyber Monday, with a few ‘lightning deals' released throughout.

What should I buy on Black Friday 2020?

Black Friday is the biggest online shopping day of the year and has long been thought of as the commencement of the Christmas shopping period where you can buy anything at a discount from beauty products and clothes to toys and homeware.

But Black Friday is actually the best time of the year to buy anything tech related from TVs, and speaker systems to tablets and game consoles.

Big names that took part in 2019 include Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Tesco, Currys PC World, GAME, Carphone Warehouse, M&S, Debenhams, ASOS and Very.
