Lunaz Presents First Electric Powered Classic Rolls Royce Car

24 August 2020 • Written by Olivia Michel

Looking to buy a classic car that's also eco friendly? British car company Lunaz has announced that it is beginning production on the first ever fully electric Rolls Royce classic cars. Lunaz, which specialises in the electrification and modernisation of vintage cars, will be producing a limited edition of thirty electrically powered classic Rolls Royce models.

Buyers looking to add a new classic to their vintage collection will be able to chose between a Rolls-Royce Phantom V or a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud model that will retain all the glamour of a classic car while being completely emissions free. The Rolls Royce models join Lunaz’s existing fleet of electrified cars by Jaguar and Bentley.

Rolls-Royce cars are specifically engineered to be silent and smooth on the roads, but converting to electric power will amplify these characteristics while ensuring that the brand remains relevant for today’s increasingly eco-conscious drivers.

Speaking about the collaboration, Lunaz founder David Lorenz commented: “the time is right for an electric Rolls-Royce. We are answering the need to marry beautiful classic design with the usability, reliability and sustainability of an electric powertrain. More than ever we are meeting demand for clean-air expressions of the most beautiful and luxurious cars in history.”

Lunaz managing director and technical lead Jon Hilton added that the project by Lunaz “takes cars that are under threat and gives them new purpose.”

Described by Lorenz as “a classic Rolls-Royce relevant to a new generation”, the 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V will be the first electric chauffeur-driven car in the world, powered by a 120 kWh battery pack that will offer a range of 300 miles.

The expertly restored exterior features a contemporary two-tone paint scheme combining shades of midland and cinereous grey.

Inside, sustainably-sourced leather adorns the seats and compliments the original woodwork of the interior surfaces. Up to eight passengers can be carried in the car, which features a driver’s cabin separated and sound-insulated from the rear of the car.

Despite the classic design, the electrified Rolls Royce Phantom V is updated with high-tech amenities inside, including television screens, a telephone, climate control functions and a bar service for the passengers’ drinks of choice.

The other classic car model now in production by Lunaz is the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. An 80kw/h battery will provide a range of over 300 miles, allowing drivers to confidently undertake long journeys while producing zero emissions.

Commenting on the model, Lorenz added: “a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud has always stood as the most beautiful expression of long-range luxury touring.  Electrification brings a new dimension of usability and driver engagement to some of the most significant cars ever made.”

Orders can now be taken for the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud by Lunaz, which starts at £350,000 and the Rolls-Royce Phantom by Lunaz, which starts at £500,000.
