Salcombe Gin launches ocean-inspired Voyager Series

26 July 2018 • Written by Zoe Dickens

Founded by two former sailing instructors, Angus Lugsdin and Howard Davies, and created in a distillery overlooking the ocean on the UK’s pretty South West coast, Salcombe Gin has long had an infinity with all things aquatic. For summer 2018, the brand is building upon this association with a range of collaborative limited edition gins called the Voyager Series.

The first, Arabella, is named after one of Salcombe’s famous fruit schooners and has been developed in collaboration with chef Michael Caines, whose Michelin-starred restaurant at Lympstone Manor also offers mesmerising views over the water at Exmouth.

“I chose to work with Salcombe Gin because, out of all the gins on the UK market, I believe that Salcombe Gin produce gins of exceptional quality,” said Caines of the collaboration. “The stand out flavours of citrus complimented with the fresh savoury notes of lemon thyme makes my Salcombe Voyager Series gin ideal to drink before dinner, as well as paired with modern European cuisine which I favour.”

To celebrate the launch of the first Voyager gin, which is limited to 1,200 bottles, as well as highlighting the brand’s original Start-Point gin as the perfect summer tipple, the brand has also announced a series of events, tastings and yacht-focused services. For those heading to Salcombe on board this summer – recent visitors to the area have included Elfje, Force India and Aviva – or planning to compete in the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta or Lendy Cowes Week, a gin butler service can be ordered to deliver and serve signature Salcombe Gin cocktails on board via a Ribeye tender.

Prefer to mix your own drinks? A hamper delivery service, containing a bottle of Start-Point gin, tonic water, copa-style gin glasses, jigger measure, tongs, bottle opener, ice and grapefruit, is also available direct to your yacht. True enthusiasts, meanwhile, can book a place at the Salcombe Gin School and discover the art of copper distilling and layering flavours to create a unique and completely personal gin before experimenting with garnishes and tonics to find your perfect drink.

Of course, if you’d rather just sit back with something created by the experts, Salcombe’s Born of the Sea cocktail collection is happy to oblige those visiting the distillery while foodies will be well looked after at a series of cocktail and food pairing experiences taking place throughout Salcombe, Cowes and Dartmouth during August.
